How to come up with endless content ideas

Feb 8, 2021 | Content Marketing

Do you struggle with coming up with content ideas?

Trust me, your not the only one!!

Feel like you are always staring at a blank screen trying to think of what to write about on your blog post?

What to send to your email list?

Or even what post to write about on your social media?

This is the biggest struggle that I hear from business owners on a regular basis- “how do I come up with new content ideas”?!

So I thought I would give you my quick framework breakdown of how I come up with endless content ideas for my business and also for my client’s businesses every single month.

What I often see businesses do when it comes to coming up with content topics is that they go TOO BROAD with their content ideas. So they think of the more broad topics regarding their industry, rather than really niching down their topic ideas into very much smaller points around the various parts of their business or industry. So what this means is that you very quickly run out of ideas because you are going too broad with the topics.

When we are the expert in our industry, we forget that our average dream customer actually doesn’t know a lot of the foundational parts to what we know or even the basic building blocks of big topics. So when we dive deep into a high-level topic without even breaking down the building blocks, then we are just setting our dream customer up for failure, or even worse, they will exit out of reading our content because it is too high level.

For example, in my industry, my broad topics might be Advertising, Facebook, Branding and Websites. So I might write a blog post on each of those things:
– How to be successful on Facebook
– How to create a great website
– What good branding looks like
– Advertising strategies you should be using.
So that’s one blog post for each of those four major topics and then all of a sudden I am stuck on what else to write about for my business that’s going to connect with my dream customer. The thing is, that my dream customer generally doesn’t know as much as me, so by me writing a really broad overarching blog on Facebook, actually means they are missing a lot of the foundational parts that make up the knowledge you need to know before you even start trying to be successful on Facebook. Then I’ll end up writing posts that my dream customer can’t connect to, can’t relate with or doesn’t fully understand because I’ve missed out a lot of the foundational parts of Facebook which I could do through breaking down success on Facebook into small sections.

If we continue with our example, rather then writing a blog post that is called ‘How to be successful on Facebook’, I could write a full series of 10 blog posts (let’s be honest, I could write 100+) breaking down different things you can do to be successful on Facebook. For example;
1. How to use hashtags on Facebook
2. Do I need a Facebook group to be successful?
3. How many posts do I need to post per week on Facebook?
4. 3 ways to find new followers on Facebook.
5. How to set up Facebook ads manager correctly.
6. My top 6 post ideas for Facebook
7. How to get your audience engaging with you on Facebook.
8. Is Facebook better than Instagram?
9. How to use Facebook Stories to your advantage.
10. 3 tips to getting your posts seen in the newsfeed.

So in just one short minute, I have come up with 10 individual blog post ideas just from one broad topic and I could’ve kept going with more ideas! Basically I just broke down that broad topic into smaller topics and really split out that area so that I could write more specifically about each of those topics that fall under that one broad topic which is ‘How to be successful on Facebook.’

Once you get into the habit of content creation it becomes much easier to come up with topic ideas and brainstorm new ideas. Basically the trick is to just always niche down further and further than what you think you need to. So we could even take one of those niched down ideas above from that list of 10 and turn that that into smaller niched down blog post.

Don’t belive me? I’ll show you;

For example, we could turn the blog post called ‘How to get your audience engaging with you on Facebook.’ into 10 more separate blog posts like:
1. What is an engagement rate on Facebook
2. Why is an engagement rate important?
3. What types of engagements are there on Facebook?
4. My audience doesn’t engage, what can I do?
5. Why you need to engage in your own newsfeed to increase your engagement rate
6. How to manage your engagement rate as your followers grow fast
7. Is post engagement rate more important than post reach
8. The best stickers to use in stories to increase your engagement rate
9. Ways to write your posts to increase your engagement rate
10. My top 5 ideas to increase your engagement rate on Facebook

There we go! 10 more ideas for blog posts in another minute by just breaking down that one topic from the above list.

Once you’ve got your broad blog post ideas niched down into small content ideas then you can start turning that content into EDMS and Facebook posts and video marketing for your business. So for example when turning a blog post into a Facebook post, you just take a shorter snippet from the blog post or write a summed up version of the blog post and turn it into a Facebook post. Just make sure you add some personality, make it really connectable and then tell the person reading the Facebook post that they can read more about this topic on your blog.

I hope that you found this helpful in coming up with endless content ideas for your blog post and social media posts. Try this out and let me know over on my Instagram if you need any more ideas for content to create for your business.
