The shiny things can honestly be stopping you from making more money in your business, we can get so caught up on the things that look good on paper that we actually forget about taking action on the things that are going to help us take steps towards our dream life.
When you are a busy business owner, and you’re a Mum, and your life is crazy, you do not have a lot of time to work on your marketing, so it’s so important to make sure that you are doing the actions that are actually going to move you forward in your business and get you where you want to go. You want those steps to help you create momentum and take giant leaps and big steps fast!
Now, some of the shiny things can be really important parts of your marketing strategy at different points in your business growth. But often if you have limited time to work on your marketing, there are other things you should be doing before you’re including the shiny things in your marketing, for example:
Reels
Everyone is creating reels, everyone’s talking about reels all the time, and how much they help you get so many more followers, which is amazing, but reels have a really specific part of where they fall into your marketing strategy, which is about growing and bringing in a new fresh audience. So if that’s your goal in your business right now, then yes, you should be doing reels, but that’s not necessarily going to make you more money.
Creating perfect posts
If you have a little bit of perfect perfectionism in you, you will find it really hard to create content, create posts, create stories on your Instagram, and you can get so caught up on trying to make everything perfect, that you actually don’t end up posting a lot at all. And it’s so much better to create content that’s imperfect, but sharing the message and the heartbeat of your brand rather than trying to make everything perfect.
Trying to get more followers
We all want more followers, it looks good on paper, it looks good to everyone else. But getting a heap of followers actually doesn’t equal more money in your bank account, you can have 10,000 followers, but if they’re not actually buying from you, then you’re not making money. Some businesses can have 300 followers, and have been making $10k a month, because they’ve attracted followers that are their dream customers. They’ve nurtured those followers well and now those followers are buying from them on a consistent basis.
SO WHAT TO DO INSTEAD?
✅ Focus on nurturing the audience you already have
What we need to do instead is focus on nurturing the audience that you already have. So it doesn’t matter if you have 10,000 followers or 300 followers, like I just said, you can have a successful business, no matter how many followers you have. It actually doesn’t come down to the number of followers you have, but how loyal those followers are to you!
Ask yourself:
- Do you have an audience that’s obsessed with everything you create and just can’t wait to buy what you’re selling?
If the answer is no…
Then we need to start nurturing your audience so that they do become OBSESSED with you!
So where is the best place for you to go to nurture the audience that you have?
I’ll tell you the answer, that the best place for you to go to nurture the followers that you already have on your social media, is your Instagram stories.
➡️ Your Instagram stories!
Stories are often a neglected part of your Instagram strategy, because even though they should be super simple, everyone seems to find them the hardest.
Your Instagram stories actually enable you to dive deep with your audience and to nurture them and build incredible relationships. This is where you can get your dream customer into your DMs to really help them with what they’re struggling with and connect them with your service that will help to transform their life. I know that lots of followers or going viral on reels looks good on paper, but if you do want to build your business so that you can go from inconsistent income to consistent income, then you need to make sure you are getting the best return from the time and energy you spend on your marketing.
Instagram Stories make people feel like they’re your best friend and like they’re in your inner circle. Because they are getting all the behind the scenes and the more intimate part of your business.
I want to share with you four ways that you can nurture your audience using Instagram Stories.
Here are four different ways that you can show up on your Instagram stories, so that you can be nurturing your audience if you are struggling know what to share on your Instagram stories:
1. EVERYBODY HURTS
So the first point is to share something that your dream customer would be struggling with and then some tips to help them overcome it. Firstly, brainstorm and write down a heap of struggles that your dream customers have. And then you can write tips of how they can overcome those struggles. Then you just choose one of those struggles, share about it, share your tips and link it back to your service or DMs if they want more help.
2. STORYTIME
Storytime is where you share something outrageous, funny or hard that’s happening in your day to day and use lots of engagement stickers to engage with your audience. Engagement stickers are so important for increasing the engagement rate of your Instagram stories. Because the more engaged your followers are, the more Instagram will know that your stories are beneficial to your followers. So take the time to keep your eyes opened in your day to day of interesting, funny, sad or outrageous things that you can share.
3. THEY ALL NOSEY HUNNY
People are nosey, right? They want to know what’s going on in your business. They want to see the behind the scenes, they want to know what’s going on in your life. These type of stories are about showing the behind the scenes in your business (not your lunch 😉 ) but what type of work you are doing in your business right now. What this does is it builds authentic authority for your audience. They can see all of the things you do for your clients and they can start to picture how your services would work for them.
4. EDUCATE BABY
This is about picking a topic that revolves around your business and educating your audience on it. Pretty simple, hey?! So you would pick a topic and then break it down. Just like I have done for you on this Instagram stories blog post. What you’re wanting to do is create that, “oh my goodness that makes so much sense” moments for your audience. The great thing about Educate Baby stories is that you can pick a topic, educate your audience on it, but then you can take this content and split it into lots of other types of content. You can turn that story into an Instagram Reel, then turn into a post or four, then a marketing email or blog. There are so many different ways that you can reuse and recycle that content that you’ve just created for your story.
Those are four ways that you can use to better nurture your audience on Instagram stories. If you want more help on knowing how to show up on your Instagram Stories, then jump into my DMs on Instagram to ask me any questions you have!
