Are you struggling with feeling overwhelmed in your business right now?

Oct 6, 2021 | Marketing General

Overwhelm is literally holding you back from growing your dream business.

I know it, you know it.

We both know it.

When you get stuck in feeling overwhelmed in so many different areas of your life and business, it paralyzes you from being able to move forward and being able to step into the amazing things that you want to step into to grow your business.

As we’re coming into the final stretch of 2021. I’ve been having so many conversations with you and other business owners about this deep feeling of overwhelm that has seemed to settle over so many of us. Overwhelm from not knowing what to do in your business, overwhelm from coming out of winter, not having enough sun in our lives. Even overwhelmed by everything that’s going on in the world right now.

You know, there are so many things happening in our world. And that really can affect your emotions and how you’re going mentally. And even for some of you, you’ve had kids at home for a long while if you’ve been living in one of the states that have been in and out of lockdowns and have had your kids home from school. And obviously, that is going to cause so much overwhelm for yourself and for your family.

I think a lot of us came into 2021 thinking that 2020 sucked, but it’s over and we’re going to move forward, it’s a new year.

But for a lot of us, life hasn’t changed from 2020, the restrictions and the lack of being able to travel, see family and friends, and those of you that have been heavily affected in New South Wales and Victoria. It’s heartbreaking, it’s such a hard thing to go through, and that’s going to leave you feeling some heavy, deep overwhelm.

There’s also a lot of overwhelm from the social media platforms constantly changing at the moment, they are releasing new features, new things to test and try. You just get used to one feature, and then they release another feature. It’s so frustrating when you’re trying to keep up. You’re trying to grow your business using social media and you feel overwhelmed with all of the things that are changing and all the experts telling you what you should and shouldn’t be doing with your marketing right now! It’s overwhelming, right?

Obviously, I’m talking about this topic, because it’s really my life right now. And it’s something that I know many of you have been struggling with too. For me right now, I am navigating the whole process of growing a human and then running my business at the same time. While also trying to do all the other things I’ve committed to in my life like volunteering and connecting with family and friends. I feel like I’m navigating a lot of overwhelm at the moment in my life and just a deep setting overwhelm that really affects the way I show up in my personal life but also the way I can show up in the business and social media.

There were 3 steps that I have taken in the last few months that have really helped me to get back on track and just to help me manage this difficult season. Learning how to live with what you are going through and navigate it to make the best out of it within your season.

Step 1 – I gave myself a break and space to reset.

Humans connect with other humans. They don’t want to see the picture-perfect, curated stories that look like they were filmed by a professional videographer and don’t show real life at all 🙅‍♀️ They want to see realness. They crave to see what goes into your business. The behind the scenes things that feel exclusive. They want to see mistakes when you are talking and feel like you are talking directly to them, not like you are reading off a script. So when you show up on stories, you don’t have to look perfect, have a perfect environment to video, or even have a perfect script planned out of what you are going to say. Just show up as you. Being authentic to you and your brand. That will make it much easier for you to show up as it takes the pressure off and also will help you to connect better with your audience too.

Step 2 – I amended my strategy to suit the energy I had to show up with.

I amended my strategy to suit what was going on in my life right now. So this is honestly one of the best parts of having a strategy, is that you can pivot and adapt easily. If you don’t have a strategy, you end up just feeling guilty all the time not taking the steps that you know you should be taking towards your dream life. Because you can be in a struggling season, and amend your strategy so that you’re still taking steps towards your dream business. But it just looks different than what you originally planned or you just might be moving forward at a slower pace for a little while. You might put the timeline back for a few things that you planned. (Ps. life is long, you have more time than you realise to do the things you want to do).

So when I set my goals for this year on 1st January 2021, I obviously wasn’t pregnant at that time. So that obviously affected the timelines that I’d set for things that I wanted to achieve in 2021, and they had to be amended slightly. I just sat down and reset what I was working towards and where I was heading and made sure that I was still moving forward. But in a way that suited what was going on in my life right now and how I wanted things to look in the future now that I was starting my family. I needed to work out how I could rehash my content strategy and a few other things. So that it worked around my life and so that I could give my body, the energy and the rest that it needed to grow human.

That’s why we do the strategy work in the good times. So that in the hard times it’s so much easier for you!

You can adapt and pivot easily in the hard times because you’ve already created the strategy.

That is one of the reasons why the very first thing you do when you join my marketing Academy is that you do the marketing strategy course that I’ve built, which will create your marketing strategy so that you have the foundation built and ready to go.

Step 3 – I tested new ways to show up that suited my energy levels

The third step that I took is I started testing new ways to show up that suited the energy I had in that season of life. So I started looking at the way I was showing up and how I could show up in different ways on my social media and in my marketing that better suited my current energy levels.

So for example, I launched my podcast! I love talking. If you know me, you know I love talking. That comes really easily to me. So launching a podcast was the perfect timing for me in that respect. I also changed up the way I was doing my Instagram stories, so that I could still nurture and connect with my audience, but in a way that wasn’t draining. I also looked at the services that I was offering and planning on launching to make sure I was launching services that really suited where I was at and that I could give my whole energy to, and not launching services that drained me.

So these were some of the steps that I took to navigate overwhelm that I was feeling in my business:

  1. I gave myself a break and space to reset.
  2. I amended my strategy to suit what was going on in my life right now.
  3. I started testing new ways to show up that suited the energy I had in that season of life.

Feeling overwhelmed in your business sucks! It truly holds you back and just leads to everything else being really hard in business life.
