Showing up on your stories on your terms

It’s time to show up on your stories on your own terms! ☕

One of my big pet peeves…

Is when people tell small business owners that there is only ONE correct way to do your Instagram and if you don’t follow it then that’s probably why you are not getting results 😒

Well hunny, guess what?!

The success of your Instagram actually has a lot less to do with you following a perfect formula and much more to do with the way you show up.

This blog is very important for you to read because I want to tell you exactly what you need to be doing to show up on your stories. By the end of reading this blog, you will feel so much more confident in showing up on your Instagram stories in a way that suits you and your life, rather than feeling like a slave to your stories.

Instagram stories are all about building that know, like and trust factor. Your reels, posts and using hashtags will focus more heavily on bringing in a new audience. But the best place to nurture your audience is with stories. Stories are like texting your best frie

When you show up on your Instagram stories there are three important things you should be doing.. 🤔

I am going to break them down for you below:

⚡ When you show up on your Instagram stories, are you being… AUTHENTIC

Humans connect with other humans. They don’t want to see the picture-perfect, curated stories that look like they were filmed by a professional videographer and don’t show real life at all 🙅‍♀️ They want to see realness. They crave to see what goes into your business. The behind the scenes things that feel exclusive. They want to see mistakes when you are talking and feel like you are talking directly to them, not like you are reading off a script. So when you show up on stories, you don’t have to look perfect, have a perfect environment to video or even have a perfect script planned out of what you are going to say. Just show up as you. Being authentic to you and your brand. That will make it much easier for you to show up as it takes the pressure off and also will help you to connect better with your audience too.

⚡ When you show up on your Instagram stories, are you being… GENEROUS

Nobody loves the friend who is all take take take and never gives… 😒 And I am sorry to say it, but if you don’t struggle with that in your friendships, you might be that friend babe 😉 It is the worst thing though when someone always wants to talk about themselves all the time. When you leave a coffee with someone it feels like all they did was talk about themselves the whole time and didn’t even ask one thing about you. You start thinking “do they even know me?!” 🤷‍♀️

I promise you that it is the same in business when you do that. When you show up on your stories and just talk about yourself, your products and are just constantly in sell sell sell mode it is such a turn off to potential customers and also your followers. Yes, your followers want to find out about you, but they want to feel like you are adding value to their lives. You can do this through your stories. Don’t make all your stories about selling or talking about your day. Share tips, tricks and value-adding content that your followers really love. You can also speak about their pain points and things they would be struggling with, as it shows that you really know your dream customer and you know how to help them.

💡 Want to know how to become more magnetic in your Instagram stories? I recently recorded a podcast that walks you through how you can be more magnetic in your marketing and attract your dream customer so that they approach you and desperately want to buy your product or service. You can apply these concepts straight to how you are doing your Instagram stories. Link to this podcast episode on the website.

So when you are doing your stories next time, don’t forget to be generous and think about how you can really add value to the person’s life who is watching your story.

When you show up on your Instagram stories, are you being… CONNECTIVE

Stories are about developing a deeper connection with your dream customer. This means that your stories should focus on connecting with your dream customer and taking them on a journey. When you change your perspective to become about that, it really changes how you show up on your stories. You can connect with your followers in a range of ways, through being vulnerable, sharing entertaining stories that are funny, sharing something that happened in your life and asking if anyone has had the same experience or even sharing some of the more difficult things too.

Make sure you focus on how you are intentionally connecting with your audience and encouraging them to get into your DMs to keep the connection going.

I know that Instagram stories can be super scary and can be hard to get the nerve to jump on them, but it’s time to stop listening to the advice that says that there is only ONE correct way to do your Instagram stories (or anything in your marketing really haha). As long as you are focusing on incorporating those three points into your Instagram stories, then it doesn’t matter how you actually do them. You can make them work for your life and your business. Not the other way around.

It’s time to take the pressure off and start showing up on your terms.

All of a sudden, watch your love for Instagram stories increase 🤳
